Interest in maritime security has gained considerable momentum over the past years, due to a surge in the dependence of countries on the maritime trade routes and the increased risks to maritime security. Within this context, one of the workshops held at the annual Gulf Research Meeting in Cambridge (July 23-24, 2021), focused on Maritime Security and the Gulf States, in which Dr. Ashraf Keshk presented a paper titled, “Maritime Security of the Arabian Gulf countries: Threats and Capabilities”. In this regard, his article discusses how to confront maritime security threats through an understanding of the marine environment and identifying mechanisms for cooperation and collective action.
