Today’s article in the local newspaper, Al Hayat, by Dr. Omar AlUbaydli, discusses the confidentiality of salaries.
In the Gulf, as elsewhere in the world, employees respect each other’s privacy and do not share information about their salary with others. However, new research in the USA by Zoe Kellen (Harvard University) and Ricardo Perez-Truglia (University of California, Los Angeles) may change society’s view of salary transparency. The two researchers collaborated with a large Asian bank to study the subject, seeking to make trade-related recommendations on the rules of sharing payroll data.
