The recent developments by Ethiopia surrounding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam “GRED”, forced Egypt and Sudan to urge for the Security Council’s intervention. Which came after the African Union failed in mediation efforts to reach a binding agreement on filling and operating the dam. However, the Security Council’s meeting concluded without any concrete outcomes. One of the key statements read as follows: “Each of the countries sharing the Nile waters has both rights and responsibilities, and the use and management of this natural resource requires the continued engagement of all nations involved, in good faith, with a view to reaching common ground.”
