Opinion Polls/ Opinion Poll: The Bahraini community regarding early detection of breast/prostate cancer
Epidemics and diseases of various types have frequented the human race, claiming millions of lives. However, the alleviation of economic crises and scientific progress have effectively contributed to the decline of these diseases and the disappearance of many of them on one hand, and the emergence of a new list of diseases on the other.
Cancer is considered the second leading cause of death worldwide, claiming the lives of 8.8 million people in 2015. Almost one death out of every six worldwide is attributed to cancer, according to reports from the World Health Organization.
Therefore, the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat) seeks to contribute by supporting awareness campaigns about this disease. This coincides with the global campaign to raise awareness about breast and prostate cancer in October and November 2018, respectively.
In addition to participating in providing the results of statistical data analysis as a supportive factor in curbing the spread of this disease and providing information to the entities concerned with community awareness.
Through this study, the center has been keen on measuring the level of awareness among Bahraini citizens regarding the coverage of the health insurance program for the costs of early detection procedures for breast and prostate cancer. It also examines the extent of their commitment to undergo these examinations annually and addresses the reasons that hinder their implementation.
