Bahrain currently produces all of it electricity from fossil fuel sources: around 85% of electricity is produced from natural gas, and 15% is produced from oil, with five power stations being used (Figure 1). Electricity demand has almost doubled in the past decade, reaching 13,350 GW/hour in 2013, and it is continuing to grow rapidly. Consequently, Bahrain is looking to expand its generating capacity to meet future electricity demand.
